How do search engines differ? Is one search engine better than another?
We all know there are several search engines: AltaVista, Ask, Google, Yahoo!, etc.
In an independent way, if possible, can anybody explain to me what the major differences are between them?
I'm not looking for detailed technical differences. Just wondering in what situations I would use one rather than another, or are they all pretty much the same?

Google is the best search engine when you are looking to do the majority of your searches. It is the most effective at finding what you want.
Bing is handy if you’re looking for videos but don't want to open each video individually. With Bing by putting your mouse over the video it will play a little clip and you do not even leave your search results.
